Young Israel of Toco Hills; DeKalb County, Georgia

Serving a vibrant and growing Modern Orthodox community, this new home for Young Israel of Toco Hills replaces an aging facility and provides 12,800 sq. ft. of religious, administrative and multi-use space to support the variety of services and programming offered by the Congregation.  While specifically designed to meet all of the observant practices of the members, the building, in concert with founding principles expressed by the Board of Trustees, achieved Earthcraft Gold Certification through the use of a litany of sustainable products, systems, construction techniques, maintenance practices and educational outreach.  While there were those who were initially skeptical about the viability of a marriage between environmental sensitivity and Judaic thought, the highly efficient and low-cost operation of the facility has confirmed Sustainability and Religiosity are indeed compatible.
